Spring into new shoes this season!

It’s coming up to 9 weeks till marathon season kicks off with London on 24th April. Any of you competing will have been running those shoes into the ground through the winter as the miles have grown and your strength along with it. As race day approaches have you considered shoes need to be changed? To those with marathons over the summer have you decided on new shoes and where you’re going to look? Shoes vary from model number to a new version of a shoe you’ve always loved. In todays blog I’m going to give my personal opinions on 3 awesome new shoes hitting the market this Spring/Summer, and how they could benefit you!

New Balance 1080 Fresh Foam

Key facts:

Model: 1080v6

Drop Height: 8mm

Gait: Neutral

Price: £115

The 1080 is a stable neutral shoe from New Balance. The new addition of fresh foam this season is what makes this shoe so intriguing. Fresh foam is a concept, which has been newly, introduce to the market in the last year. Fresh Foam is a material that has been made based on research using average runners pace to give the ultimate cushioning system. The forefoot is the region where this cushioning can be felt most and it’s rather dreamy!

The Upper is engineered to give the ultimate fit around the foot, but with space for the toes to splay during normal gait. The sock liner offers a bootie-like fit so holds the foot well and is very stable. This shoe is so stable that from tests I have done, even someone who pronates slightly is still likely to get on very well with this shoe. On the whole, New Balance shoes have a generous fit so for the wider feet out there the brand is great. All of their shoes come in width fittings but these would be ordered specifically through their website.

From an aesthetic point of view the shoe also has had a makeover and looks very eye catching with the pictures below being the two key colour ways for men and women (sourced at newbalance.co.uk).

ON Cloud Flyer

Key Facts:

Model: Cloud Flyer

Drop: 13mm

Gait: Neutral

Price: £130

As one of the newest brands to the market, recently celebrating their 5th birthday, ON running bring us the Cloud Flyer. Their patented technology involves the pods named “clouds” which act as a recoiled spring to give increased propulsion off the ground once they are compressed. In the Flyer, these pods are wider than in any of their other models and thus add greater stability. The upper has also been reinforced around the medial side in the mid-foot to give added structure. In terms of fit ON shoes are all generous in the forefoot.

Aesthetically speaking, ON are very simple. The colour ways above are for men and women respectively (sourced at onrunning.com) . Best way for me to describe this shoe, can certainly go the marathon distance and wont feel like any running shoe you’ve worn before!

Ultra Boost ST

Key facts:

Model: Ultra Boost ST

Drop Height:

Gait: Neutral/Guidance

Price: £130

In other blog posts I have jibber jabbered on about how amazing this material is and again in this new shoe, which released mid- January I am not disappointed. This shoe is technically not a guidance shoe but acts as one. With two densities of boost in the midsole the slightly firmer of the two gives added stability to control a pronating foot. The forefoot is especially strong and Boost aids the propulsive properties of the shoe.

The upper uses Adidas’ technology Prime-knit that is woven in differing strengths across the upper for structure and flexibility. This upper is phenomenal for wide feet and some people who suffer from bunions, as it is very accommodating and seam free.

Ridiculously light, this shoe great for distance and short powerful sprint sessions. It is a very exciting shoe and has, in my opinion, jumped to top of the pile for guidance/support shoes.

Colours this season are simple yet very appealing, see men’s and women’s models below! (Images sourced at adidas.com)

Nike LunarEpic

Now this shoe is buzzing around the Internet with these pre-released images and looks EPIC.

Based on the current design of the football boot the Mercurial, this shoes USP is that high collar and the change in the thickness of the Lunarlon midsole. I have nothing to offer but speculation but the outsole is very special. I have seen images and have also seen the shoe in real life! With spring like pods on the outsole I am very interested as to how this shoe will behave! When will we find out? Launch is set for 3rd March 2016…Keep those eyes peeled!

Overall, obviously other brands have shoes too on the market, but these are all rejuvenated models that are unlike anything else out there on the market. Obviously I highly recommend before you go out and buy these shoes you are correctly fitted as dependent on foot type and shape you, certain shoes may or may not work for your gait style.

Any questions you know what to do 🙂 Hapy Monday!
